Sumo
SUMO is a design-research project for a smart house, developed in Doha with Vaener and Kingspan and completed in 2018.
Rather than a commission for a particular client and site, it was an exercise in what a house could be if it were designed as a system: prefabricated modules, resolved in the factory, assembled on site, with the building's services and intelligence integrated from the outset rather than added afterwards.
The project was developed by an unusually large team for its size, reflecting its nature as research carried out inside the office.
